Illegal Border Crossings on Pace to Hit Almost 1 Million This Year
Epoch Times – Most Central Americans will be released, despite 90 percent having meritless asylum claims
WASHINGTON—Large groups of migrants from Central America, traveling by bus through Mexico, have become the new norm in illegal border crossings into the United States.
In one instance, border agents encountered 334 illegal immigrants who had been dropped off by eight commercial buses right at the U.S.–Mexico border, Kevin McAleenan, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) commissioner, said in a Senate hearing on March 6.
More than 70 large groups (of 100 or more migrants) have been apprehended by Border Patrol so far this fiscal year—equaling more than 12,000 apprehensions. That compares to a total of 13 large groups in all of fiscal 2018.
In February alone, Border Patrol apprehended more than 66,000 people crossing the border illegally. A further 10,000 were detained after presenting at ports of entry without legal paperwork to enter the United States.
“At the current pace, we are on track to encounter close to one million illegal aliens at our southern border this year,” Department of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen told the House Homeland Security Committee on March 6.
El Paso Uptick
A recent 24-hour surge in El Paso, Texas, highlighted the issue. Border Patrol agents were inundated with several large groups of illegal aliens starting late on March 5.
Two large groups—consisting primarily of Central American families and unaccompanied minors—crossed the border fence near downtown El Paso. The first group contained 112 people and the second 252, according to CBP. Several smaller groups also crossed in different locations along the El Paso metro area. In one of the groups, border agents discovered an unaccompanied 2-year-old child.
In total, more than 700 illegal aliens were apprehended in the 24-hour period. Read much more at the Epoch Times

One-third of migrants in caravan are being treated for health issues, Tijuana health official says
Migrants who came with the caravan are suffering from respiratory infections, tuberculosis, chickenpox and other serious health issues, Tijuana’s Health Department warned on Thursday morning.
The spokesman told Fox News that out of 6,000 migrants currently residing in the city, over a third of them (2,267) are being treated for health-related issues.
There are three confirmed cases of tuberculosis, four cases of HIV/AIDS and four separate cases of chickenpox, the spokesman said.

New Immigrants Must Not Have Their Votes Suppressed
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said the United States must not suppress the vote of newly arrived legal immigrants — including those foreign nationals who arrive en masse at the U.S.-Mexico border.
During a press conference in Austin, Texas this week, Pelosi admitted that the goal for the country’s mass illegal and legal immigration system is to ensure the more than 1.5 million new arrivals who come to the U.S. every year are on the voter rolls.
Pelosi added that it is immigrants, not American citizens, who make the nation “more American.”
When we talk about newcomers, we have to recognize the constant reinvigoration of America that they are, that we all have been – our families. And that, unless you’re blessed to be Native American – which is a blessing in itself that we respect – but that constant reinvigoration of hope, determination, optimism, courage, to make the future better for the next generation, those are American traits. [Emphasis added]And these newcomers make America more American. And we want them, when they come here, to be fully part of our system. And that means not suppressing the vote of our newcomers to America. [Emphasis added]
The “newcomers” who should be fully able to participate in voting, Pelosi said, include the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and border crossers who arrive at the southern border every year.
